Exporting the GNS530 Active Route

The new Apollo v1.3 GPS can be updated at any time from the RealityXP Garmin 530 v1.2.

Start the Garmin and Load your flight plan. Now Press ENT and Activate the Flight Plan. Put your cursor over the FPL key and right click – this allows you to export the active Flight Plan. Note: the exported flight plan will only contain the first 10 legs in the flight plan if there are more you will have to wait until later in the flight to export them…see below.

Cold Start on Apollo:

Start the Apollo normally and the Select FPL then Select INFO and you will see a flight plan called !!530XP!!.pln – use the Small Know to select this flight plan and Press ENT. The flight plan will update and show INACTIVE press ENT to activate.

During Flight:

As an example, go back to the Garmin 530 and input an Approach into your active Flight Plan. When you are satisfied with the FPL then Press ENT.

Put your cursor over the FPL key and right click…this will export the next 10 waypoints. Make sure that the Apollo is not navigating at this time.
Press the NAV key
Press the FPL key
Use the small knob to change the flight plan pages until you see the page with ACTIVE displayed, or press the FPL key to directly jump to this page. When set, press the SEL key and this will make the FPL INACTIVE.
Press the INFO key and Select the !!530XP!!.pln and Press ENT to Activate the Flight Plan press ENT again.

Note 1: for accuracy it is best to make these changes in both the Garmin and the Apollo just before passing a waypoint.

Note 2: When the !!530XP!!.pln is created it is stored in your Microsoft Flight Simulator directory. Under the root you will see a Folder called “myflts” the flight plan is stored here.

Note 3: This is now like a typically Microsoft Flight Simulator Flight Plan…now that it has been created you can change its name to match what is stored in the 530 so that you do not have to export it again. In addition, the file is easy to cut and paste so that you can create a flight plan with more than 10 waypoints that can now be easily accessed by the Apollo.
